Domiciliary Carer

Job Purpose: As a domiciliary carer, your primary responsibility is to provide high-quality, person-centred care and support to individuals within their own homes. You will contribute to the well-being of clients, promoting independence, dignity, and choice.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide personal care.
  • Dressing and undressing / preparing the service user for Day Care or trips out.
  • Washing / bathing / showering / shaving / grooming / cleaning teeth.
  • Hair care (washing / brushing).
  • Nail care (fingernails only).
  • Toileting and all aspects of personal hygiene.
  • Continence management.
  • Care of pressure sores (under appropriate nursing supervision).
  • Getting in and out of bed.
  • Assisting with the use of Aids to Daily Living / Rehabilitation Aids, as required.
  • Helping with rehabilitation programmes, as prescribed by healthcare professionals.
  • Day / evening / night sitting services, as required.
  • Assist with mobility, transfers from bed to chair following individualised manual handling care plan

2. Dietary Care:

  • Preparation of snacks and meals according to the service user’s likes / dislikes.
  • Assisting with feeding, as required
  • Monitoring diet and fluid intake by completing food and fluid charts if required.

3. Domestic / Household Services:

  • Shopping, and the preparation of shopping lists.
  • General cleaning duties, to include cleaning / dusting / vacuuming / polishing.
    • Bed-making.
    • Clearing refuse and rubbish.
    • Laundering / Handwashing / Ironing / Light needlework, as required.
    • Fuel Management.

4. Assist with medication management, ensuring adherence to prescribed regimens.

5. Foster positive and supportive relationships with clients, promoting their emotional well-being.

6. Monitor and report changes in clients’ health or living conditions.

7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of care provided.

8. Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and family members to ensure holistic care.

9. Adhering to infection control measures all the time.

10. Attend training sessions and meetings as required.

11. Uphold confidentiality and always respect the privacy of clients.

12. To conform to all Policies and Procedures laid down by the Organisation detailed within the Company’s employee handbook and Health & Safety handbook in respect of carrying out these Care duties and in other administrative aspects of the business, as relevant.

13. To participate as directed by the Domiciliary Care Services Manager / Supervisor in Induction.

14. To maintain accurate, concise, and timely records of service user care, diary sheets, time sheets and mileage sheets.

15. To participate in Staff, Team and Quality Management Review Meetings as directed by the Domiciliary Care Services Manager Supervisor.
